Help For Children Battling Cancer
"Because Kids Get Cancer Too!"
If so, you are probably overwhelmed and not sure what to do next,
and certainly unsure how to cope.  Cancer Warriors hopes the
information we provide will offer you some guidance in this
unpredicatable journey.
Tip #1
The best thing we did as a family was sit down together and come to the
understanding that everyone is probably going to be exhausted and tired, and patience
may appear lost.  We make a commitment to one another that should one of us fly off
the handle or seem short-tempered, to not take anything personal.  By sitting down
and understanding this may happen it actually helped us get through those times
quickly.  There were no hurt feelings along the way between husband and wife and we
believe this talk we had ahead of time helped us recognize when those times were
present and we were able to talk about what we were feeling and see how we could
help one another.

Tip# 2
Go ahead and pack a small suitcase, even if you have to buy a new one.  Keep it
packed with the bare essentials like shampoo, soap, small toothbrush and travel
toothpaste, razor, slippers, 2 pair of undergarments, socks, pajamas, flip-flops - no
matter the temp outside you'll want these for the hospital shower, and at least 2 outfits
each (2 for the parent designated as the main caretaker, usually the wife due to the
father needing to work to keep health insurance / 2 outfits for the child on treatment).
The reason for 2 outfits each is because the times you rush out the door to the
hospital and end up staying will usually be at the most inconvenient time.  2 outfits will
allow you one outfit to be wearing and one can be washed at most hospitals.
Otherwise, if you have 2 days worth of clean clothes then most people can get a
chance to break away or have someone bring clothes to them before both outfits are
dirty.  Keep this packed permanently suitcase in the back of a closet and take it every
time your child spikes that dreaded high fever that causes you both to rush off.  It has
been a theory that if you don't forget it, you won't stay.  But the one time you forget it,
your child will be admitted.

Tip# 3
Get an address book and notepad that you will prepare ahead of time with all
important phone numbers and friends and family you want notified in case of an
emergency.  Keep this separate from your normal family address book so that you can
hand it off to someone else to start making calls.  You don't want to have to take the
time to mark each name or tell someone while under so much stress......instead you
can just hand them the book and they can get to work making phone calls and emails.

Tip# 4
Create a Care Page web site just for your child battling cancer, so family and friends
can stay connected and updated on what is going on.  Believe us when we say this -
you WON'T FEEL LIKE REPEATING YOURSELF A MILLION TIMES!  By having a Care
Page, you can post updates on hospital stays and updates on how your child is doing,
as well as post tons and tons of pictures.  The best part of all is this service is 100%
free!  Care Pages is very easy to use and you can keep the web site private so only
those people you invite will know it exists.  Create your free web page by visiting
