Sleep is an essential part of our daily lives that we need in order to stay healthy and be able to perform our daily tasks. Not having enough sleep usually results to the person having a bad mood throughout the day, inability to concentrate on the tasks at hand and worse, can even lead to different types of sickness.
A person’s inability to sleep is often caused by a lot of factors. One of the most common reasons for this is having insomnia. Insomnia is a condition of a person who is unable to fall asleep or often gets inadequate sleep because he tends to wake up every now and then without any apparent reason at all. Having this type of condition can actually be due to a lot of different factors. It could be because of a certain medical condition or could be due to psychological problem.
The first thing that a person would normally do if he is unable to sleep is to look for different sleeping aids that he can use in order to address his sleeping problem and taking sleeping pills is one of them. One thing that he often times fails to realize though is that while it helps him get sleep at that certain time, it doesn’t give him the long term solution to his sleeping problems.
Sleeping pills are found to be effective and are directed to be used only on certain instances, one of which is if we travel to another place which has a different time zone. It is also being given by doctors to their patients if they have undergone a certain procedure and the patient is unable to sleep because of that. Other than those reasons, it was never advisable to be used in long term situations.
There are several known reasons why taking any type of sleeping aids should not be done on a daily basis. Below are some of them:
- There are reported incidents of it having side effects on people who have been using them for a long time. Some of those are the tendency to forget things easily, the feeling of being drowsy and being in a
state of confusion at most times. As stated, most of its side effects have something to do with a person’s psychological well-being.
- Our body tends to be immune to the effects of the pills to us; hence, we tend to have the need to use more of them which in turn leads us to having more of the side effects that it may cause us.
- The person using it tends to become dependent and often feels that they will not be able to get any sleep at all without their help. This is one of the other psychological effects of taking those types of
drugs.
- If the person decides to stop using it, he may experience some of the known symptoms when trying to withdraw from something, some of which are the feeling of being nauseous, shaking of the body and excessive secretion of sweat in all parts of the body.
- There were also reported cases where if a person is taking this kind of pills, it usually interferes on the effects of the other medications that the patient is using.
- There were studies made where the person’s sleeping condition like insomnia turned to a much worse state.
